ODE TO THE PAST (with the occasional nod to the present)

Fan Mail

Today I got my very first piece of fan mail. It was a super-sincere note (yes, hand-written!) by a reader who enjoyed The Tenth Saint, particularly the descriptions of Ethiopian (Coptic) Christianity. He said it sent him to his computer to learn more. That was music to my ears. Anytime we read something that ignites curiosity or moves us to action, we grow in some, even small, way. For a writer, that is a huge reward.

By the way, he also said, "I encourage you to write more." Done! Another archaeological thriller is on its way for delivery June of next year.

Writing can sometimes be a lonely business; therefore, reader mail (it doesn't even have to be hand-written) is always a welcome diversion. So, write to your favorite author! He or she will really appreciate it.
